What if I am not in when delivery takes place?
If you are not available when delivery is planned and there is a safe place to leave the product please discuss this with a member of staff to see if they feel the items will be secure and to discuss detailed instructions of your supply or fitting requirements, if you are not available, we will be able to rearrange for a different day that would be more convenient.
How are the buildings delivered?
All our garden buildings are supplied in panels and loaded/unloaded by hand. We need to know how far your site is from the point where we will park our vehicle and if there are any tight corners or turns, as well as how many steps/staircases there may be. As the buildings are delivered in panels, we will need clear headroom. Any gateway or paths should be at least 750mm wide. Assembly on site can generally take about half a day to a day, depending on the size of the building.
Can the building be delivered to a different address?
Yes, a building can be delivered to a different address when placing the order. Please make sure you state the exact delivery and invoice address required.
How large will the truck delivering the building be?
Your garden building will be delivered either on a 3.5 tonne ford transit or a 7.5 tonne flatbed. If you feel these vehicles may cause access problems, please advise at point of order.
Is there any helpline if I get stuck with assembly?
Yes there is a fully trained team on hand to assist you with any questions, or queries that you may have. Call our team on 01209 860 269 or email: info@truro-portable-buildings.co.uk. We are open 6 days a week, Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30, Saturday 9:00-3:00.
Are the sizes shown Internal or External?
All the buildings sizes shown are approximate external sizes, plus roof overhangs. If these sizes are not suitable, please contact us to discuss a custom made order.
Is everything supplied that is needed to construct the building?
Yes all parts, i.e. screws, nails, felt and step by step assembly instructions to follow.
How many people does it take to erect a building?
We recommend at least two people.
What tools are needed to assemble a building?
In general we recommend you have a hammer, screwdrivers, a drill, stanley knife, spanner, step ladder and sealant and gun.
Are all the doors and windows fitted and glazed?
Yes, all the buildings are supplied with doors and windows already hung and the windows and summerhouse doors are glazed with horticulture glass. Playhouses are glazed with perspex sheeting.
Can Truro Portable Buildings erect my garden building for me?
Yes, we do provide an installation service providing a solid level base has been provided and there is clear working space. All buildings will require a base of some sort. A level site is required for buildings with floors. This can be in form of a block, concrete or tarmac base. If the site has a small slope of less than 50mm, we will supply 3 x 2 tanalised timber bearers to help level the area with the use of packing where necessary. Buildings without floors, like garages and greenhouses, will be bolted down. These buildings require a level concrete pad sized exactly to our base dimensions so the shiplap cladding will overlap the side of the base, while the bottom rail of the wall is bolted into the concrete.
Without the correct base, buildings may be very difficult to assemble and in many cases lead to future deterioration of the product, such as doors dropping out and becoming difficult to open or close. A poor base may even cause water leakage.
Are the buildings made from wood from well managed forests?
Yes. The wood we use comes from sustainable sources and we can provide a chain of custody certificate if required.
What after care is needed?
Timber is a natural product which is subject to environmental conditions, i.e. movement, colour variation, shrinkage, warping and splits. It is therefore strongly advised that you treat your building before or after you construct it, and periodically after that in order to maintain and prolong its beauty and life. If left untreated, it will deteriorate. A sprite base wood preservative is recommended to use, good examples are: Ronseal and Cupniol. You should also make sure there is no overhanging tree or hedge growth near the building. You should also check and replace any damaged felt; it is essential that you act upon this without delay.
How do you assemble your timber buildings?
Apex and Pent Style Assembly Instructions:
  • All buildings must be erected onto a firm, flat, level base!
  • Position bearers at each end of the floor with equal spaces between. Ensure that they are all firm, flat, parallel and at the same level
  • Lay the floor panel in position and check again that it is level
  • Remove the protection blocks from the bottom of all walls. Do not remove the blocks from the top of the gable tops
  • Place Back Wall in position on the floor
  • Put up the Gable End and bolt to the Back Wall using the pre-drilled pilot holes
  • Place the second Side Panel in position and bolt as before
  • Place the Door Gable end in position and bolt in position
  • Tighten all bolts
  • Secure the roof to the main frame using the purlin hooks
  • Fix the walls to the floor with nails or screws
  • Fix felt to the roof ensuring that there is sufficient overhang at the ends; this can be trimmed after fixing the fascia boards
  • Fix Fascia Boards
  • Put sealant in corners and fix corner fillets
  • Treat the building with a sprit base wood preservative
Buildings larger than 10 x 8 will be supplied with king posts and Truss, or 'A' Frame. Detach the King Post from the Truss if necessary and bolt in centre of the building using coach screws.
